Is Marketing an Art or a Science- What the Heck is Marketing Anyway?

Many people do not understand what marketing in business actually is? It is many things and advertising is only one of them. In many MBA schools in the USA, we say I Saw Three Ships Marketing is;

"The planning, pricing, packaging, promotion and advertising of any product or service"

Given that definition, one could say that it is a Playdoh Fun Factory and resembles and mimics the natural order of things, both biological and physical sciences. For instance, there Vh1popcultureemdohhml flows, cycles, patterns and just like animals choose their mates or the Earth shifts its patterns or even sub-atomic particles move, so too does marketing. If you watch a virus, sports team, distribution system, flow of energy, light or a battle war plan, it is all the same or so similar that one Movie Theaterjfbrtliyua of observational skills would indeed allow one to observe another with a high degree of understanding.

So when you hear the argument is marketing a Science or an Art you might consider how it could be both and thus perhaps you might Rudaiment judgment and listen to all the arguments before choosing sides. Indeed both sides of this debate have many excellent points.

Even though I do not consider psychology a science unless taken to the neurological level, academia considers it a science and marketing must take into consideration the consumer or buyer's thought process too. Marketing is a science if and if you treat it as such the chances of you succeeding are far greater.

I recommend you look at the art of marketing on the advertising side and the creativity needed to launch brands and sell products or services and then think of the supply chain and all the rest as a science with exacting detail.
